Feeding Therapy
Feeding therapy helps children who have difficulty eating, drinking, or participating comfortably in mealtimes. Depending on a child's needs, therapy may be provided by an occupational therapist or speech-language pathologist to address chewing, swallowing, sensory processing, self-feeding, and food acceptance.
Feeding therapy may be helpful if your child:
Eats a very limited variety of foods
Gags, coughs, or chokes while eating
Has difficulty chewing or managing textures
Struggles to transition to age-appropriate foods
Has medical or developmental conditions affecting feeding
Experiences stressful mealtimes
A feeding evaluation can help determine the most appropriate support.
