Therapeutic Horsemanship

Leg Up Farm’s riding instructors set goals specific to each individual’s needs and tailor each session in order to focus on meeting those goals. The equine therapy program encompasses all aspects of riding, handling and communication with the horse. Sessions include both mounted and unmounted activities, providing a well-balanced, comprehensive approach which allows individuals to reach their goals in a more effective manner.

Riding instructors may utilize Leg Up Farm’s riding simulator in sessions if determined appropriate. The riding simulator allows individuals to benefit from the movements of a horse in a controlled environment. It allows the riding instructor to focus on the position and body mechanics of the rider. It also allows riders to practice skills like posting trot or cantering before transferring skills to an actual horse.

Leg Up Farm’s therapeutic horsemanship program is open to individuals ages 4 and over.
